Sold

A green glazed faience shabti figure with finely moulded features and an incised inscription on the front of the legs. The inscription reads “A boon (that the king gives) to Osiris, Lord of the Westerners, for Kenut, born to Ta(-?)”.

Culture
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 30th Dynasty, c. 380-343 BC

Size
12 x 3.4 cms, case 16.6 x 4.8 cms

Condition
Repaired on ankles and light surface chipping mostly around the base. The underside of the base has lost its glaze, probably due to amateur removal from an antique glued display stand

Provenance
Ex. private collection, Lyon, France; acquired in the 19th Century. Accompanied by a late 18th or early 19th Century French tooled leather case in the shape of a sarcophagus with Fleur-de-Lys decoration and velvet interior. The case is slightly larger than the shabti so was not specifically made for it but shows evidence of having been used for storing the figure for a long period of time.
