Egyptian Naqada large pottery bowlE169
A large black-top red burnished pottery bowl with a black polished interior.
Egypt, Naqada I, c. 4400-3500 BC
11 x 30.7 cms
A stabilised hairline crack on one side as well as a few minor rim chips
Ex. private collection, West Country, UK; acquired early-mid 20th Century. Probably from the collection of Robert de Rustafjaell (1876-1943); mostly dispersed by auction between 1906-1915.
Two late 19th Century paper labels on the inside of the rim: “Prehistoric Pottery Bowl. 10000 B.C.” and “Found at Naqada Egypt”. These labels are very similar in content and hand-writing to others from the de Rustafjaell collection.
