Greek Attic black figure Gorgoneion kylix fragmentG81
The foot from a black figure pottery kylix cup retaining the the interior decorated tondo. The tondo depicts a Gorgon face (Gorgoneion) with large staring eyes and extended tongue. The Gorgoneion was seen as a protective talisman against bad luck and evil, it often appears on the inside of drinking vessels as well as the centre of warrior shields.
