A rare group of four Laconian miniature pottery votive vessels including a lakaina, some retaining traces of black and white painted decoration.

Between 3 and 4.7 cms tall

Condition
The aryballos has been repaired and has lost part of its rim, the other three vessels are intact as shown with surface wear and chipping

Ex. private collection, Crowborough, East Sussex, UK; acquired from a deceased estate sold at a local auction

Laconian vessels are rare and few examples remain outside of museums. The Fitzwilliam Museum (Cambridge, UK) has a collection of vessels of the same represeantative shapes which were excavated at the important sanctuary of Artemis Orthia in Sparta. The Metropolitan Museum (New York, USA) holds a group of similar vessels which are provenanced to the sanctuary also.
