A fine black glazed pottery exaleiptron (also known as a plemochoe) decorated on the upper body with a row of alternating purple and black tongues which is replicated on the lid.
Exaleiptron vessels were used to store valuable scented oils and they have an inward-curving lip inside the body to prevent liquid from spilling if the vase was accidentally tilted.

Condition
Body intact apart from very light chipping and insignificant accretions, the lid is repaired from three pieces and is chipped around the rim
