Etruscan erotic decoration Genucilia plate

A pottery Genucilia Group stemmed pedestal dish with unusual erotic decoration. The surface of the dish is painted with what appears to be a pair of highly stylised open legs, between them is a phallus apparently “in flagrante delicto”.

Although erotic depictions are relatively common in both Greek and Roman art, this highly abstract composition on a Genucilia plate is quite unique and we have been unable to find any parallels.
