A bronze trefoil-lipped wine jug, the lip decorated with cast ovolo patterns.
Roman, 1st Century BC – 1st Century AD
15.6 x 12.1 cms
The handle is ancient but replaced from another similar vessel during the 19th Century with the addition of a screw below the rim. The base of the neck has been damaged due to compression in the ground.
Ex. private collection, Sussex, UK; acquired 1930’s from a Swiss archaeologist and thence by descent.
