A pottery exaleiptron (also known as a kothon) with black and purple painted decoration. These vessels have an unusual inward-folded rim so that liquids could be contained within the body with minimal spillage. The majority of these vessels have been excavated at temples and sanctuaries suggesting that they served a ritual function holding liquid offerings.

Handle chipped, the surface is covered in accretions below which plenty of painted decoration is visible
Provenance
Ex. collection: Victor Emile Gabriel Chevallier (Paris, France 1889-1969) and Marguerite Jeanne VEREL (Paris, France 1887-1962). Thence from 1969 passed through three generations of the same Parisian family by inheritance.
