A red figure pottery squat lekythos with painted maenad decoration. The maenad is depicted striding towards a thyrsos and turning to face a sash suspended in the background. Maenads were drunken followers of the god Dionysos, often depicted dancing and carrying the thyrsus, a long stick wrapped in ivy or vine leaves and tipped with a pine cone.
