Sold
A pottery exaleiptron (also known as a kothon) with a single strap handle, upper body painted with a black and brown stylised ivy band. The interior of the vessel is entirely glazed black and the foot is decorated with an apotropaic eye.
These exaleiptron vessels have an unusual inward-folded rim so that liquids could be contained within the body with minimal spillage. The majority have been excavated at temples and sanctuaries suggesting that they served a ritual function holding liquid offerings.
