Egyptian painted sarcophagus fragment with offering scene

A fragment from a wooden sarcophagus cover with painted decoration to both sides over a layer of compressed mud and gesso. The exterior side is painted with a figure of an enthroned god (probably Osiris) receiving ritual offerings including a vase and lotus flower placed on a table before him.

Ex. collection: Victor Emile Gabriel Chevallier (Paris, France 1889-1969) and Marguerite Jeanne Verel (Paris, France 1887-1962). Thence from 1969 passed through three generations of the same Parisian family by inheritance.

Egyptian sandals
