A very fine and rare Laconian painted pottery stemmed kylix cup with two handles and a splayed rim. The lower outer surface is painted in a cream slip and the majority of the exterior is painted with bands of pomegranate, lappet, ray and pointed lotus bud friezes. Each side of the handles is decorated with a horizontal palmette and the interior of the tondo is painted with an apotropaic concentric circle eye.

Expertly repaired from fragments with areas of museum style restoration left undecorated
Provenance
Ex. private collection, Herefordshire, UK. The former owner worked as a conservator for Spink & Son during the 1970’s-1980’s, it is likely that the cup was acquired from this important London dealership.
