An exceptionally fine grey-green carved greywacke heart scarab with a flat uninscribed base. The body is carved in intricate naturalistic detail with an under-cut head, “feathered” legs and striated wing-case.

Provenance
Ex. private collection, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, UK; inherited by the former owner c. 1970 from their father-in-law who acquired the scarab before 1950. Formerly mounted on a 19th Century marble block for use as a paper-weight.
