Greek marble stela fragment depicting a heroic warrior and mourners

Available

A fragment from a marble stela depicting three figures standing around an altar. On the right side of the altar is a naked youth holding a crested Corinthian warrior’s helmet in his raised right hand. In front of the altar is a figure of a young girl looking up to the youth and to the left is a draped older man with his hand raised to his head.

The composition indicates that the frontal-facing youth is the focus of the scene, being the heroic embodiment of a deceased warrior who is being mourned by his father and daughter or infant sister.
